Meet Reis Wasserman, a Tax Manager in our Creative Industries team, working with businesses across film, television, theatre and the wider creative sectors.
From navigating creative industry tax reliefs to supporting businesses as they grow, Reis Wasserman enjoys getting to know the people behind the business and finding practical answers to often intricate tax questions.
We caught up with Reis to find out more about his role, what goes on behind the scenes and why being part of a client’s journey is one of the most rewarding parts of what he does.
Tell us a little about what you do at NLP and the clients you typically work with.
I’m a Tax Manager in our Creative Industries department at NLP, supporting businesses across the film, television, theatre and wider creative sectors.
A large part of my role involves helping clients access valuable creative industry tax incentives and expenditure credits, including TTR, FTC, AVEC, IFTC and VGEC.
What’s one question you find yourself being asked by clients again and again?
Can we claim any tax relief for this?
What’s something people might not realise goes on behind the scenes when you’re helping a client?
People often see the final piece of advice, but not the amount of work that goes into getting there. Behind the scenes, we’re reviewing legislation, HMRC guidance, contracts, financial information and sometimes several possible scenarios before reaching a conclusion.
The technical answer matters, of course, but it also has to make commercial sense for the client and their business. That’s the part I enjoy, taking something complicated, working through the detail and finding an answer that actually works in practice for our clients.
What do you enjoy most about working closely with clients?
Seeing clients grow and becoming part of their journey.
What’s something your NLP colleagues would immediately associate with you?
I’d like to think my colleagues would describe me as approachable and always happy to help.
I really value collaboration, and one of the things I enjoy most about working at NLP is drawing on the expertise of colleagues across the firm. The best results often come from working together, and I’m always happy to pick up the phone, share ideas and support where I can.
